Textural Weavings reflect my connection to fiber art from the early 70's. Coming full circle in my work… back to my roots but with added decades of life experience and the techniques of working glass, metals and ceramics that contributes to forming my body of work. I explore and employ the tactile and the visual, the strong and the fragile, the organic and the controlled, the juxtaposition of feminine and the masculine, the fluid and the static which are the cornerstones to all my work. Hung on the walls and pooled on the floor; these pieces create a sensual and sinuous movement in hard steel. Combined darkened and shiny metals reference post modern industrial, while the connecting elements create my aesthetic for design and balance. For me…it’s all about the surface, balance and juxtaposition. I love to see people drawn to my pieces by the desire touch and handle them.
The ability to create textural sculptures with woven steel beads has been an exploration of the traditional gender roles by replacing the feminine twine with masculine steel - while creating art that is fluid, sensual and tactile.
